Here you go…The Fat Kid Outside

Since people have been asking and i guess to serve as proof, so that you know my “eat healthy” rants bla bla bla are based on actual fact, here is, drumroll, my before, fatty, picture:

Take that biggest loser.

Year 2006. 240 pounds. 19 years old.

i want to pinch my own cheeks.

Now: Year 2011. 150 pounds. 24 years old.

Just like you, I lost a great amount of weight myself and I read a blog post of yours where you talk about exercising, I can say you are soooo NOT full of sh*t!       Holy crap, man! You motivated me even more by showing that it is possible to stay fit if you just work hard. Can you post a blog of what types of food should be eaten for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and the snacks in between? I’m having a hard time, I keep wondering about things like if it’s okay to eat rice twice a day or if it should only be eaten once, which meal of the day it should be eaten, if fruits shouldn’t be eaten at dinner cause the energy will make you fat since you move less at night, etc. :(

      I used to be around 245 lbs way back my early college years, and then I lose around 80 lbs along the way, and now gained 30 lbs. again that’s when I started working as an auditor in a big auditing firm I gained around. Good thing I discovered this blog, it inspires me more to lose weight and be fit!

        you need to eat and workout. Build your muscle, you’ll see that helps alot of skinny people achieve what they want. eat lots of protein.

      You think you can add the costing to your recipes? They do look delicious but they also seem expensive try. Or maybe, you can add 1 or 2 budget-friendly recipes from time to time. :) Just a thought…

      You remind me so much of my friend. He was really overweight during his teens and lost weight to diet and exercise. (He’s also sooooo good looking and cool!)
      I recommended your blog to him because his diet is really unhealthy and so he can eat good food.

      Peanuts and EGGS! He succumbs to torturing himself on a low carb high protein diet. :(

      I just read your blog after seeing a picture of you and a friend of mine taken before the Cobra Ironman Triathlon in Cebu. Probably one of the best decisions I made this year. That kinda sounds a bit much but hear me out. I’ve been struggling with my weight ever since, You may be the Fat Kid Inside but, well, I’m just a FAT KID.

      Read through what you said about how being Fat makes one demotivated, ugly, etc…. and well, you’re right in every respect. Seeing your picture just gave me the push again. It may be a long arduous task but losing weight isn’t just about looking good, it’s also about being healthy and feeling great. Thanks Erwan for the push

      Just saw this pic and it reminded me of my adolescent years. I’m not one of those lucky people who can eat anything and not gain a single pound. I’ve been heavy set all my life and to rub it in a little bit more, my height is not something to brag about either. The first time I set foot on a gym was when i was 15 years old. I was 155 lbs, and determined to loose all my baby fat and off it went. I lost about 40 pounds in 3 months. I was in my best shape ever from that point on until after a decade. I had two more successfull weight loss after that, however, I always struggled in keeping the pounds off. My friends find it funny that everytime they look at my pictures, it’s either I was really heavy or really thin

      I stumbled upon your blog as I was looking for a health & fitness sites to get inspiration from. I find your food blogs very interesting. Keep it up and wish me luck. I’m going for it again.

          I used to workout everyday at the gym..but when I started working, I stopped, but I jog & play Frisbee every Saturday.

          …And I’ve lessen my rice intake for 3 months already.

          I’m about to lose hope. hehehe

      I always stumble upon your blog I find it really helpful, and your body now is Amazinggg.. but I wonder how you keep your self motivated through out the whole process.. because honestly its not easy. I ve been going a lot to the gym and its my 2nd month now.. I get discourage every time I see people that are thinner than me and I feel like my progress is too slow.. how do you keep your self motivated? have you been to this stage before?

      Like everyone, I’d like to thank you for this blog. It’s not just one of those ‘Oh-I-like-to-cook-and-stay-healthy-so-here-is-everything-chronicled’ websites. You incorporated a bit of your personal life, which justified what your passion is and where it lies. And I think it means a lot to those who need that extra motivation to start and keep the habit of being healthy.

      Can’t wait to try your recipes. They’re plated so nicely and the tutorials are easy to follow. Makes me wonder if you’ve had any formal training. I mean, as much as I love to experiment with food in the kitchen, I can’t quite come up with the kinds of recipes you post! Haha. That’s pretty damn awesome.

      hey, so, I just started looking at your posts recently.I must say, you inspire me gee. Just like you, I used to be really really really fat, weighing 75 kg for a 19 year old girl! I used to not care about my weight and just eat whenever i get bored. I knew it was bad for my health too ae but I didn’t care. I already started going to the gym but still needs help on what I eat.         it took em 4 years to get abs and then 1 more year to get the body i wanted. Losing weight is easy, toning and building muscle is harder.

      Hi Kuya Erwan :) I really love your blog because it has so many healthy options. I really want to lose weight and i think i have the dedication now.. I’m on the 4th day of my diet. Like you, i did realize that it’s not good to be fat and i should start a healthy living now. Before, i always eat what i want, anytime anywhere! But right now i realize that i should always watch what i eat because you are what you eat right? So i thought it was like that.. That’s why right now, i always measure the things that i eat. I eat 1 cup of rice a day, half for breakfast and half for lunch. I stopped eating pork (because i’m type o, and yes i’m on a blood type diet) ham, sweets, potatoes, sodas, ketchup, mayo,Starbucks, milkt ea, coconut (but i still buy coconut water though lol) and other foods that i will surely gain weight. I fell in love with the greens as well. Every time i eat lunch or dinner, i always have my lettuce as my side dish. Like today, my lunch is 1/4 tilapia, 1/2 rice and lettuce on the side. lol. I’m also doing after six! What i do is i will brush my teeth right after 6pm so that i wouldn’t be tempted anymore to eat something.. But sadly i’m not working out.. Do you think that i’ll lose weight if i just do these things alone? What do you think? Please kuya if it’s okay with you, give me some advices on my diet. I would appreciate it a lot.       I was just listening to you on GTWMPodcast and kinda wondered what you looked like when you said you were 200+lbs before….Wow! I’m inspired! I used to be 210lbs back in 2010..it’s been a struggle but I am trying to go lower from 170 today to around 150+/- in the next 2 years :) Seems I don’t have to rush things after all! :) I’m a “chef-in-training” if you will and It’s really hard to lose weight when you’re always around “good” food.

      Anyway, I’m joining a competition in a couple of months under, of all things, the “Healthy Lifestyle” category which requires me to make something brilliant that will total 500 calories for 3 courses (apps, main, dessert). Any advice?

      Hi erwan ! For me , Loosing weight is a very hard thing to do. You need patience and discipline, thats why I salute you ! ;) I want to loose weight and the only thing that I think can make me loose weight fast is by going to gym but my mom wont allow me cause Im only 15. Are there other ways or tips that you can give for a chubby girl like me who wants to be fit ? :) p.s Youre my inspiration

      oh wow! I’ve been fat all my life and got tired of all the sickness that comes with it so I’m trying to lose weight. I’ve lost 40lbs already, been on plateau for months now and thinking I’ve already reached my limit. but really that picture inspired me to go for for it and lose the last 30lbs left!

      I used to weigh 200++ lbs back in high school, then I lost weight during college (I weighed 158lbs back then). Now I gained weight (I weigh 180lbs now).. this post will be my inspiration to lose 30lbs.

      wow!!now im more determined to lose weight!! i’m always been fat since i was young and the highest recorded is 89kg ..my main prob before is i dont exercise and slow metabolism but now im 19 just started healthier lifestyle and in a month i lose 6kg not that big but its a good start right??

I gained weight because of a sedentary lifestyle and overly indulging in foods I knew were bad for me, eating out too often, taking the easy route (microwavable dishes) and not caring what went in my body, before I knew it reached 240 lbs. I lost weight through pure dedication, tireless hours of hard work and yes, food.
