Easy, Healthy and Spiced Homemade Popcorn

 photo DSC00254_zpsb7c7f917.png

Sometimes I look at products in the supermarket and I ask myself whether I would be able to make it myself and if I could, would it be healthier and how so.

Popcorn is a festive snack that always announces something comforting and fun. Mostly related to movie nights, a trip to the theater or theme parks. It is basically just popped corn kernels with seasoning, so how come is it sold in microwave packages or pre-made stove top vessels for a premium? Well, I don’t know either, because one you learn how to make it at home, you’ll never buy the store bought stuff again.

I really feel that we will see popcorn as a popular snack in 2013. Here is a base recipe from which you can add anything your crazy fat kid mind can conjure.

Heat up 2tbsp of peanut oil. Once hot add 1/2 cup of kernels. Wait for the popping to take off and die down. Season and eat. Watch the video below and see how I put my spin on it.

I’ve always wondered if popcorn is healthy. But I think I should try making this recipe and eat it while watching my favorite movie. :)

I am addicted to popcorn! Let me share how I make myself a bowl:
Take 1/4 c of popcorn kernels about 1 tsp oil (just to coat the kernels) dump them in a microwave safe bowl with lid (preferably glass like Pyrex) pop it in the microwave on high for about 4 mins or until the popping stops. Easiest way to make popcorn, less clean up, cheaper and alot less oily

i’m not sure microwaved is cheaper. Stove top has more flavour.

about THE FAT KID

I gained weight because of a sedentary lifestyle and overly indulging in foods I knew were bad for me, eating out too often, taking the easy route (microwavable dishes) and not caring what went in my body, before I knew it reached 240 lbs. I lost weight through pure dedication, tireless hours of hard work and yes, food. I cooked my way to fitness, making sure to only feed myself tasty well prepared dishes with all the right stuff, the perfect fuel, taking me down to 150lbs. Of course I indulge from time to time, as the fat kid still lurks inside of me; here you will find a little bit of everything for the sole purpose of sharing my passion for food and life.
