Hi erwan, after reading your blog I determine to lose a few pounds. Losing those few pounds I must say it wasn’t that easy as pie, it needs a lot of passion, dedication, hardworking and support from the loved ones. In the past I was weight around 72kg and today I am proud to say I’m 57kg. Eat healthy and stay healthy guys. Xx

      Hi Erwan,

Filipino-Australian food and travel writer Yasmin Newman is set to launch her book 7000 Islands in National Book Store.

7000 Islands takes the readers on a culinary journey through the Philippines and uncovers an intriguing nation of 7107 islands where the people’s love for eating is as big as their hearts. Despite the Philippines’ central location in South East Asia, most people know little about the country and its cuisine. Inspired by her travels across the Philippines, Yasmin resolved to share the Filipino food story and preserve the traditional recipes and modern food ways for future generations to come. Four years and a number of trips have culminated in this beautiful and expansive food portrait of the Philippines.

Containing over 100 authentic recipes, the book tells the story of the country’s food through its colorful and unique history – with influences from Spain, China, Mexico and the US adding to the rich texture and flavor. Aiming to fill the gaps for people who have never tasted or cooked the cuisine before, 7000 Islands ranges in recipes from mouth-watering savory dishes and decadent desserts, to native fare and Spanish fiesta meals, and every soup and snack in between.

Yasmin Newman is a food and travel writer, editor, presenter and photographer. Her work has been featured in a range of media including Feast, MasterChef Magazine, and Selector magazines, as well as SBS Food Online, where she presents Kitchen Conversations: Philippines. As a child, Yasmin’s understanding of the country was informed by its addictive fare, from the big bowls of pork sinigang (tamarind soured soup) and cassava bibingka (cassava cake) her mother prepared in Australia to the buko pie (young coconut pie) and crispy pata (deep-fried pork hock) she feasted on with cousins during family visits to the Philippines. As an adult and a food writer, she sought a deeper comprehension of the influences and events that shaped the food she loved.

In this regard, we would like to invite you to attend the book launch on October 5, 2013, 4 pm, in National Book Store, Glorietta 1.

We look forward to your positive response.

      Best,

      Hello Erwan,

I have been alot about your name/handle (fatkidinside) since i have been an avid fan/listener of RX 93.1′s THE MORNING RUSH and… I am very much like you. I used to be a fat kid (325 lbs to be exact at my heaviest point) but through the help of my family and the program I underwent I am now tipping the scale at 175lbs. You heard me right, I lost 150 lbs. I just wanted to say HI to a kindred spirit in one way or another. Keep on Rushing! :)

      thanks!

I have known people who have dropped their Compaq laptop and never had a problem. Comparing two of their most popular ranges of netbooks we can see various differences.

My name is Charlie and I just recently moved to the Philippines about 4 months ago. I’ve had such a difficult time locating dining establishments in the Manila area and found lots of useful information on your blog. It’s a great blog filled with such useful information. Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences with the world.

Back in the States, I was a huge app user for dining reviews and as a serious hobby we are developing a website and app to help hungry Filipinos and foreigners alike realize all what the Philippines has to offer by way of the “foodie movement”.

The site and app will be totally free to the user. We are in the process of constructing the site itself as well as the app. The site is not presentable by any means as its just a skeleton because we are currently in the stage of testing databases and making sure the iOS and Android app are running smoothly with those databases. I’ve been using all of my own money to develop the site and apps because like you, food is a love close to my heart and I would love to share it with the world, starting with Manila as this city has so much to offer.

The main reason for my email is I would love to use some of your blog content during the beta testing to add content, with proper credit to you and your blog of course as a contributor. Also maybe down the road if you are interested in some collaboration that would be most helpful as you are an authority in the Manila foodie scene.

A little of background on myself; I am a call center consultant, born in the Philippines raised in the States. I moved back here after 37 years of living abroad. I love great food, whether from a street cart or a 5 star restaurant. I love anything that’s happiness to the palate. I’ve dined in a a handful of Michelin restaurants from California to NY, still waiting to get to Japan, as well as many high end food establishments. I’m simply a huge advocate of good food. I greatly appreciate originality like Chef Jose Andres and his Think Food Group with their scientific approach to cuisine, but I’m also a huge fan of just a great tasting piece of meat cooked properly.

I tried looloo but found that it was not up to date. Last week I spent an hour looking at reviews of different restaurants only to arrive and learn that the restaurant had closed down.

I look forward to hearing from you and perhaps collaborating in the future.

      Thank you for your time.

about THE FAT KID

I gained weight because of a sedentary lifestyle and overly indulging in foods I knew were bad for me, eating out too often, taking the easy route (microwavable dishes) and not caring what went in my body, before I knew it reached 240 lbs. I lost weight through pure dedication, tireless hours of hard work and yes, food. I cooked my way to fitness, making sure to only feed myself tasty well prepared dishes with all the right stuff, the perfect fuel, taking me down to 150lbs. Of course I indulge from time to time, as the fat kid still lurks inside of me; here you will find a little bit of everything for the sole purpose of sharing my passion for food and life.
